...In many cases, Hinawa is special as she is the first mother of a protagonist in the Mother series to have a prominent role...

No Way. This needs to be changed. While Hinawa is more important than Ness and Ninten's moms, it is blasphemy to say that she has a prominent role and the other two don't. One of the reasons the series was titled MOTHER is because of the importance of the main character's mothers. I'm changing this, but I wanted to bring it up anyway. This statement is actually quite truthful. Hinawa is the first mother of a Mother protagonist to be given a fleshed out role in the game she appears in. Mothers of previous games were little more than background characters (though Ness' mother had some additional prominence because Ness must phone her occasionally to deter homesickness). Even Pippi's mother had a larger role to the game she appears in, coming to Ninten for help rescuing her daughter, and setting Ninten up on his first of many adventures. Otherwise, Hinawa is the first mother character in the series to have a significant contribution to the installment she belongs to. Her death is a major plot device which sets the tone for the events to come, it is one of the reasons why Lucas grows from a "crybaby" to a confident boy, and it establishes early on in the game the evils of the Pigmask Army. I agree with the statement 100%. Ninten Vixen Ana Windstorm Lloyd 22:54, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Name meaning[]

Hinawa's name means "String of Fire."

Well, yes, but more accurately, it's "matchlock" (the lock on a matchlock gun, which is 火縄銃 hinawajuu in Japanese), in contrast with a flintlock (see where they're going?). The sunflower thing sounds like total made-up nonsense, the appearance of sunflowers in the game notwithstanding. It just doesn't sound like Japanese thinking, but if there really is some support that the developers had this in mind when naming her, it should be cited. I suppose I'll edit this thing...
