PSI Magnet (サイマグネット Saimagunneto) is a Special Move in the Super Smash Bros. video game series. It is performed by using the Down Special Move. PSI Magnet can be used in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee by Ness, Super Smash Bros. Brawl by both Ness and Lucas, and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U once again by Ness and Lucas.
When performed, it absorbs certain projectile attacks, most of which are energy-based. Upon absorption, the move replenishes the character's health equal to double to the damage that attack would have dealt. The character cannot be healed to a percent lower than zero, though. Interestingly, while Ness's PSI Magnet is formed centered around his body, Lucas's is formed centered around the finger of his outstretched hand, and thus the magnet doesn't fully cover the area behind him. However, Lucas will instantly turn around when hit from the back, which means the magnet essentially covers his whole body as well. The technique can also be used to slow down the user a considerable amount if used in mid air. Also, an enemy can be damaged at the right time by Lucas when standing in the PSI Magnet for a certain amount of time. Unlike Ness's PSI Magnet, Lucas's has the ability to K.O fighters if the fighter has taken enough damage, is near the stages blast-line, as well as precise timing. Lucas's PSI Magnet can also stage-spike fighters if timed correctly.
- In EarthBound and Mother 3, this move is actually not learned by Ness and Lucas, but by Paula and Kumatora respectively. A possible explanation for this discrepancy is offered in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl, which states that Paula and Kumatora may have taught each of them the technique for their appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.
- When used in Stamina Mode, this move can recover HP, making it similar to Lifeup. Ness and Lucas are the ones who learned that move in the EarthBound series.
