Nintendo (in Japanese: 任天堂) is a company that makes video games and video game consoles. Initially, they created playing cards and other toys and games. Their main office is in Kyoto, Japan. They also have offices in other continents — for example, North America and Europe. Their most famous video games are the Super Mario Bros. series.

HistoryEdit

Nintendo was founded on September 23, 1889. They began making video games only in the 1980s. Nintendo's first video game console was the Family Computer. Its name was shortened to Famicom. The Famicom was only released in Japan but it was later brought to North America and Europe as the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES for short. They also released some popular stand-alone video games such as the arcade game Donkey Kong, and NES games Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and The Legend of Zelda.

TodayEdit

Nintendo has many popular characters (such as Mario) and series (such as The Legend of Zelda). Nintendo currently sells the Nintendo DS, Wii and Nintendo 3DS video game systems. The Wii is a home console which plugs into a TV. The Nintendo DS (including its many different versions and variations) and Nintendo 3DS are portable systems containing two screens.
