- For the Earthbound enemy, see New Age Retro Hippie.
- "You could probably plant flowers in his hair and they'd grow."
- — In-battle check
Hippies are enemies in EarthBound Beginnings. They can be found in Podunk and ocasionally in Merrysville.
Battle[]
In battle, the Hippies only attacks irregularly and is more likely to waste turns by meditating or do actions that do not have an effect. Their battle theme is Hippie Battle.
Attacks[]
- Attack - The Hippie attacks a party member, dealing low damage.
- USEd Bullhorn - The Hippie uses a Bullhorn, saying that "Your mother is calling you", lowering a party member's Offense if they belive it, or increasing it if they don't.
- Is meditating - The Hippie meditates, wasting a turn.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]
It appears as a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.Attaching this sticker to the bottom of Ness or Lucas's trophies in The Subspace Emissary increases their PK attack by 11.
While the sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl claims that it is of the New Age Retro Hippie, the sticker's model is actually that of a Hippie, and it also claims that it first appeared in Mother, implying that the two enemies were confused.

Trivia[]
- The Hippies habit of wasting turns may be a reference to real-life hippies being non-violent.
- The Hippie's battle theme is inspired by Chuck Berry's song Johnny B. Goode. A remixed version of the battle theme can be heard in EarthBound in fights against New Age Retro Hippies and Frank Fly, and can again be heard in the Mother 3 versions of the song called Rock and Roll (Mild) and Rock and Roll (Spicy).
- Oddly, in very rare cases, Hippies can be encountered in Merrysville, which isn't hippies' usual location. Their name is The Hippie instead of Hippie, though their stats are identical. This is most likely an error by the game developers, as they are rather weak compared to other enemies in Merrysville.
