"From this day forth, you'll be rewarded for your hard work. It'll be given in units called DP (Dragon Power). You can use DP in shops and other places in exchange for goods and services. It seems you've already earned 30 DP so far. You can save and withdraw DP anytime by talking to nearby frogs. Some frogs in special locations can't conduct DP transactions, though. Shall I explain all that again?"

Dragon Power (abbreviated DP) is the currency in Mother 3. The first three chapters of the game take place prior to the inclusion of finances to the game's setting (because the people of Tazmily Village had not heard of the concept of money before Chapter 4), the Nowhere Islands, although with its introduction in the fourth chapter and onward, Lucas and friends can manage their Dragon Power using Save Frogs which appear throughout the Nowhere Islands. The system and currency replaces ATM and Dollars ($) in Mother and EarthBound.

Besides receiving them directly (such as a gift from someone else), Dragon Power are obtained by defeating enemies after Chapter 3 is finished. Enemies defeated before Chapter 3 has been finished will not affect the amount of DP the party has. Each enemy grants a set amount of DP when defeated, which will be added to the balance stored with the Save Frogs.

It is unknown what Dragon Power may possibly be; it is simply named Dragon Power as a means of what to call the currency. It is not properly explained to how the name came to be, or what it looks like. The introduction to Dragon Power is also first seen when Duster talks to Butch when he has the bag of it beside him.

  • In Earthbound they used normal currency, not DP. This supports the theory of the unknown islands that states it is an entirely new land.
  • Dragon Power may refer to the Dark Dragon that Porky Minch is trying to wake.
