Amiibo are figurines with an embedded NFC chip created by Nintendo that when scanned with a Wii U, New 3DS, or a device for the regular 3DS, can unlock certain content. The Ness Amiibo was released in the fourth "wave" of Smash Bros amiibos and is exclusive to GameStop stores in North America. A Lucas amiibo was released in January 2016.
Functionality for EarthBound series amiibo Edit
Here is what happens when you use the Ness amiibo with these games. It is assumed that the Lucas amiibo will share the same functionality when it is released.
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Edit
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS, with amiibo, players can create and train their own CPU fighter. Players can customize their amiibos with any special moves they unlocked or by changing their stats by feeding them equipment.
Super Mario Maker Edit
Hyrule Warriors Edit
Scanning any amiibo compatible with Super Smash Bros., besides those from the Zelda universe, gives the player a random weapon that has a three star or lower rating, material, or rupees.
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker Edit
Scanning any amiibo other than Toad will give the player either a 1-Up Mushroom or a 2-Up Mushroom.
Mario Party 10 Edit
Using any amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series that isn't from the Mario universe will grant the player a Scratch Ticket, which gives the player Mario Party Points that unlock different things in the game's store.
Amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Hits Edit
Yoshi's Woolly World Edit
Scanning any amiibo besides any Yarn Yoshi amiibo will make Yoshi look like whatever character was scanned. Using a Ness amiibo unlocks a Ness Yoshi. However, using a Lucas amiibo unlocks a Yarn Yoshi with a generic design of the amiibo logo.
